IC 1318, also known as the Gamma Cygni Nebula or the Butterfly Nebula, is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus, around 3,600 light-years from Earth. It is part of the larger complex surrounding the North America Nebula (NGC 7000) and is associated with the bright star Gamma Cygni. The nebula features a complex structure of gas and dust, with bright areas where new stars are forming. Its name "Butterfly Nebula" comes from the distinctive shape it resembles, particularly in certain images.
